Here is the 1957 Life magazine article by R. Gordon Wasson that kicked off Timothy Leary's interest in entheogens:

It's hard to imagine one of the necrophilous investment bankers of today - as Wasson was - devoting years of his life to researching the use of the sacred mushrooms.

Sadly, possession of even the freshly picked fungus was criminalised as a Class 'A' drug in the UK in 2005, with brutal punishments of up to 7 years for simple posession, and life imprisonment for supply or cultivation. I can't help feeling that they don't really want people to turn on, tune in and drop out. Anyway, they've successfully deterred me, but not earned my affection, respect, or good will.

Many years ago, I read where that Issue of Life sold for $1,000.00. I have five of them in our library. Any bids? grin. slp/fmrc
