Why is San Pedro legal and Peyote Illegal?

I hear that San Pedro has as much mescaline in it as Peyote, yet it is legal, why is that?

Where I'm from They are all legal to grow.

Where I'm from They are all legal to grow. I've just got into Cacti Cultivation, will be starting a Hybrid Trichocereus grow here in the following days from seed. Just trying to soak up some more information before I begin germinating the seeds.... Just to gain some needed knowledge.

Are there any Peyote growers on the forum here? I enjoy growing these where I live and are perfectly legal to grow.

well it's not legal to consume i don't believe. or to sell as a drug. but u can grow it and have it.

san pedro sucks you have to eat a thousand pounds of it and it tastes so bad it's questionable whether eating it is worth the trouble

Both are legal it just depends on where you are at and sometimes in what setting. As for much of everything else posted here I would say much is subjective and if objective is determined by the specific genetics of the sample at hand. It is not like either cacti is being bred in any serious manner for potency in the same manner as cannabis is.
