What a wonderful post. Unfortunately, it has been over four years and we haven't answered the fundamental questions. I see some important researchers have left this discussion/study, so can anyone who is making the Ambrosia Wine, or culturing the fleece, send a sample of the fleece to a lab?

Oh, it's been analyzed. It was a mucor if I remember correctly.

It's been genetically analyzed and examined by a mycologist. It seems well-established that it's not A. muscaria. But the Ambrosia Society folks still insist that it produces the same effects as the mushrooms, so it would be good to have it chemically analyzed.

Also, I'd be interested to find a description of the effects that doesn't sound like simple placebo. That's what I've really found suspicious, is that none of the people who claim this brew is so great attribute any really definitive pharmacological effects to it.

Some mucors contain ergot alkaloids.

Mucor hiemalis Wehm. ergosine
Mucor subtilissimus Berk. clavine alkaloids

just my two cents-- I've had the stuff and the effects are consistent with previous amanita experiences.

I am considering making the 'sacred wine' as it is called. I have all the ingredients and equipment needed, however I'm very skeptical this will do anything apart from making me ill.

Can anybody testify that they have tried this themselves (as instructed in the ambrosia societies guide) and it has worked? I will post results from my experiment here if I end up trying it.
