What's Everyone Listening To? -

Post by OldSoul » Thu Aug 10, 2006 4:07 pm

So, what has the e-dot community got on repeat in it's stereos/discmans/iPods these days? Other than the required listening of metal metal and more metal, I've been digging through my old CDs lately, and found some great stuff.

One I would recommend above all else is Download. If you were ever a Skinny Puppy fan back in the day, then you already know the people involved by reputation. After the implosion of Skinny Puppy, and the subsequent death of Dwayne Goettel (self-induced heroine overdose), Download formed from the ashes. cEvin Key and a bunch of others (Anthony Valcic, Phil Western aka philth, Mark Spybey...a virtual who's who of the west coast industrial/strange electronic scene at the time) started the projext, along with Goettel as an outlet for their more odd sounding soundscapes during the final days of Skinny Puppy. Their music is hands down the greatest example of what it sounds like inside the brain in my opinion.

Full Discography:

Furnace (Sigesang is a deadly tune!), Micorscopic (an EP of remixes from the Furnace Album), The Eyes of Stanley Pain (one of the scariest sounding albums of all time), Sidewinder (an EP of remixes from Eyes of...), III (more techno like than anything else), Charlie's Family (disgusting noise core made as a soundtrack to an undergound movie), and Effector. Effector is the most applicable to this site. Almost every track name is in some way entheogen related (eg: Ego Dissolve, Ayahuaca, Muscaria, etc). There were also a couple that came out that were limited 1000 copies each...I still haven't gotten my hands on III Step Forward, or Inception.

The individual members also have a whole wack of side projects. *All* are worth at least checking out if you like entheogens at all. Very reminiscent of the states we put ourselves in. Some of those side projects would include: The Tear Garden (abstract, sorta jazzy influenced weirdness...To Be An Angel Blind, The Crippled Soul Divides is my favorite), cEvin Key (Music for Cats, The Ghosts of Each Room, and The Dragon Experience), Phil Western (The Escapist is awesome...the tune The Sun is Round is amazing).

I could go on, but that would get tedious. If anyone does look for any of this music, I recommend Effector, and Phil Western's masterpiece The Escapist.

Cheers e-dot!

Right now, I'm listening to "10,000 Days" by Tool. But that's mainly because of a recent trip to hyperspace that SWIM took (#4 is the ticket). Most of the time, I'm listening to a local legend that literally everyone here should at least check out. His name is Anton Barbeau, and he deals in his own genre of psychedelic anti-pop. As a singer/songwriter, he is unmatched in his talent and originality. He sounds like a mix of Beatles/XTC/Dylan/Floyd. It's a weird combo, I know. But isn't weird what we're after?

Aside from that:
Ultramarine-United Kingdoms
Monster Magnet-Spine of God
String Cheese Incident-Untying the Not
Shpongle-Tales of the Inexpressible
Mr. Bungle-Discovolate and California
David Houston-Earth and Moon
Oingo Boingo-Dead Man's Party
Tristeza-Mixed Signals
The Grateful Dead
Oysterhead-The Grand Pecking Order
Ween-Quebec
Can
Smoosh-She Like Electric/Free to Stay (Talent)

I'll shut up now.

I've been listening to some cEvin Keys. One called "Destructor Beam." And...

Harold Budd and Zeitgeist "An Then I Alone Am Alone"

There is electronica interspersed with Krsna chants on the home burned CD this month. Someone thought my CD player was messed up. Ha-ha. It's not everyone that will listen to that stuff in Texas.

Then I have some old stand bys plugged in there like:
U2-"All I Want Is You"
Gillian Welch- "Billy The Kid" and "Nowhere Man And Whiskey Girl"-'they loaded up for a weekend in the underworld'

And, surprise! The Rolling Stones-"You Can't Always Get What You Want"

Oh. Great link Hammond!

Currently doing the Pink Floyd trip, again.

I dig ALL music, but I really like artists that can create a soundscape with there music, like Pink floyd. So in that regard, I really am diggin Shpongle right now.

That and of course I have to listen to Entheogenic. With a name like that...

Monster Magnet-Spine of God
That´s a killer album. I listened to it on monday....
"Monster Magnet Ozium lyrics"

I’m up to my brain in the mire of an ancient swamp
Pteranadon smiles at me and flies up to god
Baby let me drink deep from your globes of reality
Writhe your naked ass to the mindless groove

Baby give your tongue a taste and follow me up to my room
The bullgod has your head, and baby that’s just fine
Now it is time, we became the mighty cell
Wrap those hungry jacks to the mindless groove

They say we’ve got a lifetime, but we know that ain’t true
I will not be denied, I will not be denied

Baby, the faster you gyrate the faster we’ll be there

Arms up overhead, a goddess in the ancient song
Work that mighty world to the mindless groove

They say we’ve got a lifetime, but we know that ain’t true
I will not be denied, I will not be denied
They say we’ve got a lifetime, but whe know that ain’t true
I will not be denied, I will not be denied
Pink Floyd - Live in Pompeji

Eclipse - I could cry watching this.... That is soooooo G R E A T!!!

Pink Floyd - Meddle and The Wall and Pulse DVD

Ozric Tentacles

TOOL is always great - I love their new album...
Can't breathe right now, it was so real

Like I woke up in Wonderland

Also a bit terrifying

I don't want to be all alone

When I tell this story

And can anyone tell me why

All of a sudden the peanuts dance?

Will I ever be coming down?

This is so real,

Finally it's my lucky day

See my heart is racing

Cause this shit never happens to me
is the ticket
I assume that´s not by accident ;)....
