Salvia flowers 2011

Post by unsigned_char72 » Tue Nov 01, 2011 5:56 am

All my salvia plants started to develop racemes, if I'm lucky I'll see some nice flowers in a month or two. This must be a good year, because all other non-divinorum salvias have lots of flowers too. Sometimes I fantasize that my divinorums cross pollinate with the other salvias in the garden, generating a new psychoactive cultivar. But the chances are really low and I'm not a green thumb at all :( .

I'll update the pics as the racemes develop into full flowers.

Twelve days later, racemes are more mature:

it's said that flowers contains more Salvinorin-A than leaves, but I don't dare ripe them, they are too beautiful.

This is really awesome, and from what i understand the blooming of S. divinorum is considerably rare in most cultural conditions. Congratulations, and thank you for sharing this extraordinary horticultural experience. I would love to see more pics. Are your plants planted in the ground?

My understanding,( and sampling) , shows the flowers have pretty low levels, if any. smell is awesome though!!! Heres from late October, when they just started flowering.

Right On!!!
Wait till it opens, hopefully....sometimes they stay closed, and you pollinators are shut out..... you can help it out abit, pollen is viable when white, tiny paintbrush or tool will help. Its on the little square tabl under the roof of the flower....(lots of info and pics out there for help) Looks like you will have more opening as well!!! good job!!

will follow your advices but I have no hope... :)

Talking of seeds and hand-pollination, there was a user called SeaMac which had a nice blog about salvia flowers and how to pollinate, but unfortunately it's no longer online (I'm sure you remember, it was http://members.cox.net/sageseeds).
