Waymore Blues

Well I woke up this mornin' it was drizzlin' rain
Around the curve come a passanger train
Heard somebody yodel and a hobo moan
Jimmy he's dead he's been a long time gone
Been a long time gone a long time gone

If you wanna get to heaven gotta D-I-E
you gotta put on your coat and T-I-E
Wanna get the rabbit out of the L-O-G
You gotta make a commotion like
D-O-G like D-O-G like D-O-G yeah

Well I got a good woman what's the matter with me
What makes me wanna love every woman I see
I was triflin' when I met her now I'm triflin, again
And every woman I see looks like the place I came in
Looks like the place I came in place I came in

I got my name painted on my shirt
I ain't no ordinary dude
I don't have to work
I don't have to work

Over and over and over, through the years one line from one song keeps popping up again and again. Few other songs have had as profound an effect on my life.

From the very end of John Frusicante's "Ricky", this is repeated several times:

"And you can function as someone besides who you are."
Thrummular, thrummular thrilp,
Hum lipsible, lipsible lilp;
Dim thricken mithrummy,
Lumgumptulous hummy,
Stormgurgle umbumdular bilp.

From Neurosis' song "Lost" on their "Enemy of the Sun" album. Not sure who said the quote in the beginning originally.

"Because we don't know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, an afternoon that is so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four, five times more, perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps 20. And yet it all seems limitless."

My eyes were jaded, so close to the center I could not see
But now they are fixed and glaring at the sacrifice to be made
Now that I'm aware of these cycles I pray that I can deal
Now that I have shown you these cycles I pray that you can feel

In and out of the stray
Taking the bait
Feeling compelled to obey, betray
The isle of await

Running scared from their thought
Thinking I can summon some ancient truth before wrong
Seeking my nature, our nature with fear of being caught
Or have we been like this all along

The dawn of birth gives way to men
Age brings dimness to sight as it must
Death seals the eyelids on darkness once again
Augmentation of the dust
Thrummular, thrummular thrilp,
Hum lipsible, lipsible lilp;
Dim thricken mithrummy,
Lumgumptulous hummy,
Stormgurgle umbumdular bilp.

Morn after morn dispels the dark,
Bearing our lives away;
Absorbed in cares we fail to mark
How swift our years decay;
Some maddening draught hath drugged our souls,
In love with vital breath,
Which still the same sad chart unrolls,
Birth, eld, disease, and death.
