Re: What beer are you drinking right now? -

I've been drinking Sapporo (sp?) here lately, tastes kind of like Bud to me. Also Corona too. With lime, of course. I had a tasty ale in a pub not far from home the other night that was very hempy too. I can't remember what it was called now though but I hadn't heard of the brewery before either (i...

Re: so now, why life? why death? -

Q) why life? A) because you were born. Q) why death? A) because its not very likely that you're immortal. you know, entropy and all that biz - if you drop a bag of 10^80 red marbles and another bag of 10^80 blue marbles it will be very hard work to sort them out afterwards. Life is any process that ...

Re: Tobacco -

My favorite pipe tobacco is Samuel-Gawith's Full Virginia Flake. Some of the old English tobacco's produced by Gawith-Hoggarth are very strong in flavor and alkaloid content and small amounts make a nice addition to the virginian tobacco. There's certainly no need to inhale. When I smoke a strong pi...

Re: black henbane, Hyoscyamus niger L. -

Henbane is mentioned in the Physicians Desk Reference (2000). The highlights are as follows: Medicinal Parts: Dried leaves or the dried leaves with the flowing branches, the dried seeds and the whole fresh flowering plant. Flower and Fruit: The flowers are in almost sessile terminal, one-sided leaf...

Re: plants that cause pain -

There's the emotional/mental aspect to pain to this as well; pain's not just in the receptors but in the head too. I remember a documentary on TV about pain that showed footage of tribal initiation rituals for coming-of-age teens who hanged themselves from big fishing hooks. But because their cultur...

Re: Hops, humulus lupulus -

What's wrong with the traditional well hopped lager or 'bitter', available from all good non-Muslim countries? Some good ales have hops in the mash AND then loads of fresh hops added at the end of the brew as well to give it floral flavours. If your beer tastes very bitter and maybe has pineapple an...

Re: My First Batch of Mead -

If you want to make sparkling brews, or even champagne, the easiest high pressure proof container is a plastic, screw top lemonade bottle - they are rated to 100psi! You can feel how much pressure has built up during the brew and the dimples at the bottom collect the sediment nicely. I add one teasp...

The immortality of edot -

Just curious, but how do the backups work in Edot land? Does it all fit on a single DVD that can be made available for any of Edot's more paranoid members who'd like the information to not disappear overnight? Massively distributed backup is the quick way to immortality.
